Definition

Family of technologies that are standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and built on the Resource Description Framework (RDF). RDF technologies encompass data exchange formats, query languages, and various vocabularies and ontologies [1]. RDF technologies provide the basis for data integration of heterogeneous data sources as well as for the semantic description of resources in terms of assertions on the properties of these resources and relationships among them.

RDF technologies integrate ideas for knowledge representation commonly used by Database and Artificial Intelligence communities, e.g., semantic data models, deductive databases, semantic networks, frames, and relational databases.
