Platform-as-a-service (PaaS) describes a distributed software system that exports a wide variety of scalable application services via application programming interfaces (APIs). These services include program deployment and execution support, data storage and management, authentication and user management, and background tasking, among others. PaaS typically targets Internet-accessible software written in high-level programming languages.
