Abstract
Athletic pubalgia refers to lower abdominal and groin pain arising from an injury to the congruent fascial sheath of the rectus abdominis and the adductor complex. Its cause can be multifactorial, but is mainly an overuse injury from high-level athletic activity. It is initially treated conservatively, but if symptoms persist after 6–12 weeks, surgical intervention is an option. A number of different procedures have been described, but they all have similar return to play rates. Femoroacetabular impingement can coexist and should be ruled out, because if untreated it leads to a high failure rate.
