Abstract
Subchondral cysts and bone marrow lesions (BMLs) are occasionally seen in the acetabulum of patients with osteoarthritis. There is evidence that increasing mechanical support through the injection calcium phosphate cement would allow for osteoconductive remodeling and eventual healing of the BMLs. Subchondroplasty, or the injection of calcium phosphate cement into subchondral cysts and/or BMLs, has become a popular nonarthroplasty treatment modality for patients with knee osteoarthritis and preserved joint space with excellent medium-term outcomes. The following chapter describes our technique for subchondroplasty of the hip using AccuFill bone substitute material.
