Definition

FieldML (Christie et al. 2009; Britten et al. 2013) is a proposed open standard data format for representing mathematical models, developed at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI) at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. It is specifically focused on multivariate spatiotemporal models and finite element method (FEM) models for biological modeling, but can be used more generally. FieldML version 0.5 is the most recent release (2012) at the time of writing, and although it already comprehensively supports the representation of a wide range of relevant models, the format is still considered under development.
