Exchange relationship :

Social relationship between two or more actors in which a surplus is produced and divided through exchange

Reciprocal exchange :

Exchange without explicit negotiation about the terms of agreement

Negotiated exchange :

Exchange with explicit negotiation about the terms of agreement

Productive exchange :

Exchange in which all actors involved must contribute for any to benefit

Direct exchange :

Direct reciprocation between two actors

Indirect exchange :

Indirect reciprocation in a group of actors (e.g., A gives to B, who gives to C, who gives to A)

Power :

Capability of one actor to overcome resistance on the part of another actor/payoff differential between actors resulting from exchange
