Definition

The Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study (KIHD) is an extensive epidemiologic research project that was launched in the 1980s. Within 30 years, it has produced over 500 original peer-reviewed research papers in health-related international journals. The KIHD is a population-based longitudinal follow-up study, which initially involved nearly 3,000 middle-aged (42–60 years) men from the Kuopio region in Eastern Finland.
