1.0% to 2.64% of children are estimated to have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with an increasing number of individuals receiving a diagnosis of ASD (ASD; Baio et al. 2018; Baron-Cohen et al. 2009; Boilson et al. 2016; Kim et al. 2011; Wing and Potter 2002). Given this increase, there is a growing demand on diagnostic and intervention services (Shattuck and Grosse 2007; Wise et al. 2010), and parents of children with ASD report that they are not receiving the disability services that they need (Jones et al. 2017). Furthermore families with a child with a diagnosis of ASD report feelings of social isolation and feeling cut off from the wider society (Byrne et al. 2018; Woodgate et al. 2008).
Given families with a child with ASD often face long wait lists for intervention in public disability services and report not receiving needed services (Jones et al. 2017; Rivard et al. 2014), exercise interventions...
