Definition
Work placements are periods of supervised work that provide a person with the opportunity to gain practical training and experience within an organization. The duration of work placements can vary, ranging from a few days to several months, and can be paid or unpaid. This entry focuses on work placements for high school students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), presenting current knowledge on how work placements can support their transition into employment.

The transition to adult life for youth with ASD is a phase full of uncertainty, anxiety, and challenges (Schall et al. 2012).
