HAP: The hetero-anamnestic personality questionnaire can be used as a screener for ASD features in older adults.

People on the autism spectrum experience more psychiatric problems than neurotypical people. When they turn to mental health care facilities for help, it is important to detect (features of) an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to provide suitable care. In the field of elderly care or geriatric psychiatry however, there is a lack of knowledge about how to detect and diagnose ASD and how to care for autistic older adults. Detecting ASD (features) in an early stage of diagnosis and treatment is of great benefit to autistic older adults and their families. It is important that they get appropriate care that takes into account age-related factors. However, there is a lack of research on the topic, even though the subject is getting more attention and there is gradually more awareness and understanding about ASD and aging.
