Membership as of October 2016

Membership is open to families and individuals whose lives are affected by autism spectrum disorders (those formerly known as Asperger syndrome, PDD-NOS, and high-functioning autism) and nonverbal learning disabilities and the professionals who work with them.

Major Areas or Mission Statement

ASPEN is a national volunteer nonprofit organization with headquarters in New Jersey. It was established in 1997 by a group of parents of children diagnosed with Asperger syndrome to address the increasing need for information, support, and advocacy for individuals on the higher-functioning end of the autism spectrum and their families.

Mission

We will:

  • Increase awareness and knowledge among the community and the professionals who diagnose, treat, educate, or provide services to individuals with Asperger syndrome (autism spectrum disorder) and related disorders

  • Develop and maintain a strong network of families to support one another through the challenges of daily life
