Introduction
The area of research ethics and its related research governance issues have grown within the past few decades. While there have been frameworks in place that laid out general principles for researchers for conduct during the actual process of data collection, in more recent times, there has been a more detailed engagement with the research process with some researchers noting the importance of being mindful of ethical concerns throughout the entire research journey (Kvale, 1996). Others note the tensions inherent in ethical codes – of universal versus relative ethics, that is, ethics that varies by paradigm and culture (Ryen, 2004). The extension of ethical codes will only continue as more work begins to be conducted using social media and the Internet.
