Definition

A complex network of interconnected rectilinear ridges that is associated with the banded terrain and honeycomb terrain (Moore and Wilhelms 2001; El Maarry et al 2012).

Description

These ridges in particular in NW Hellas are tens of meters thick and form polygonal patterns that are on average 100 m wide (Fig. 1).

Reticulate Terrain (Mars, Hellas), Fig. 1
figure 1853 figure 1853

An example of reticulate terrain which can be seen in NW Hellas. The terrain displays erosive behavior with rectilinear ridges that can be an inverted terrain displaying older and more resilient crack fillings. The overall magnitude, orientation, and erosive behavior argue against them being fossilized dunes (El Maarry et al. 2012). Direction of sunlight is from the upper left.
