A widely used technology for defining the types of data that are allowed within XML files, used to create standard formats, and used by software developers to ensure that XML files have a consistent structure. An XML file is described as being valid with respect to the associated schema, if its structure fulfills all the rules defined in the XML Schema (http://www.w3.org/XML/Schema).
