n A temperature-measuring device consisting of an encapsulated, fine coil of platinum wire whose resistance increases substantially and nearly linearly with rising temperature. See Thermistor. The change in resistance is sensed and converted to a temperature reading. Resistance thermometers have found considerable use in plastics processing.
