n (1) Process of forming in a scumble or glaze over a painted ground, a textured or variegated pattern by rolling a rag or washleather over the surface. (2) Printing a pattern on a dry painted surface by means of a rag or washleather or special paint roller charged with color. The rag is crumpled or screwed up in the form of a rough roller to produce the pattern.
