n \▐a-zhә-▐rīt\ n [F, fr. azur] (ca. 1868) Natural blue pigment derived from the mineral, azurite, a basic copper carbonate. The mineral occurs in various parts of the world in secondary copper ore deposits where it is frequently associated with malachite, a green basic carbonate of copper (Perkins D (2001) Mineralogy.
