\▐lā\ n (1590) (1) The length of twist produced by stranding singly or in groups, such as fibers or rovings; or the angle that such filaments make with the axis of the strand during a stranding operation. The length of twist of a filament is usually measured as the distance parallel to the axis of the strand between corresponding points on successive turns of the filament. (2) The term is also used in the packaging of glass fibers for the spacing of the roving bands in the package expressed as the number of bands per inch.
