n (1790) (milk acid, α-hydroxypropionic acid) CH3CHOHCOOH. A colorless or yellowish liquid with several applications in plastics. Reacted with glycerine, it forms an alkyd resin. It is a catalyst for vinyl polymerizations, and an additive for phenolic casting resins. It has a bp of 122°C/15 mmHg, mp of 18°C, and sp gr of 1.2 Also known as Alpha-Hydroxypropionic Acid and Milk Acid.Open image in new window
