\-kō-ә-fi-shәnt\ n Method for reporting the result of an abrasion test using the falling sand abrasion tester, in which it is assumed that the abrasion resistance is proportional to the film thickness.

$${\rm{Abrasio}}{{\rm{n}}_{}}{\rm{Coefficient}} = {{{{({W_1} - W)}_2}} \over T}$$

where:

  • W1 = grams of abrasive and holder before tests,

  • W2 = grams of abrasive and holder after test, and

  • T = thickness of coating in mils (0.001 in.) (0.025 mm)
