n Naturally occurring ferric oxide containing manganese dioxide and varying amounts of silica and alumina. Characteristic color is a rich, dark brown. Ferric oxide range, 45–65%; manganese dioxide range, 3–20%. Produced by calcining raw umber. See  Umber.
