n (1) Any of several brilliant reds and maroons widely used in plastics and rubbers, resistant to bleeding, migration, and crocking. The initials BON stand for β-oxynaphthoic acid, the base raw material. (2) A related azo pigment made by coupling β-hydroxynaphthoic acid to an amine and forming the barium, calcium, strontium, or manganese salt thereof. The colors range from yellowish red to deep maroon.
