The loss of mass of an article or test sample as a result of exposure to particular conditions as, for example, a few hours a 90°C in a vacuum oven, or two years outdoors on a weathering panel, often expressed as a percentage of the original mass. See also Volatiles Content, which may be the same as weight loss when the latter is due exclusively to loss of volatiles.
