n (α -hydroxytoluene, phenylcarbinol) Has excellent solvent properties for a wide range of varnish and lacquer constituents. It has some application as a high boiling solvent, more particularly in baking finishes. It has a bp of 205°C, a flp of 300°C, and a vp of less than 1 mmHg at ordinary temperature.
