\ból-sә\ n [Sp] (ca 1600) Wood from the tree Ochroma lagopus, Ecuador. Its density is only 0.12–0.2 g/cm3, yet it has good strength, especially end-grain compressive strength, so it has found application as an interlayer in reinforced-plastics (Hoadley RB (2000) Understanding wood. The Taunton, Newtown). See  Sandwich Structures.
