n A thin metal disk, contained in a rupture-disk fitting, that, when subjected to a known high fluid pressure, will tear, permitting outflow of fluid and rapid relief of pressure. Rupture disks are now used routinely on extruders and gear pumps to protect both personnel and equipment against the dangers of excessive melt pressure.
