n A fabric defect consisting of long, irregular, longitudinal markings on dyed or finished goods. A principal cause is abrasion while wet processing the fabric in rope form. Rope marks are often related to overloading of the fabric during wet processing (Vincenti R (ed) (1994) Elsevier’s textile dictionary. Elsevier Science and Technology Books, New York).
