Basic Biographical Information
Robin Torrence is an archaeologist and a senior principal research scientist at the Australian Museum, Sydney, Australia. She grew up in Illinois, USA, and graduated magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College, Pennsylvania, gaining an B.A. in 1971. She completed a Master’s degree (1974) and a Ph.D. (1981) in Anthropology at the University of New Mexico, USA. Between the years of 1969 and 2013, she has been involved in extensive archaeological field and laboratory and museum projects in the USA, Europe, Papua New Guinea, and Far East Russia. More recently, she has turned her attention to the archaeology of ethnographic museum collections.
Early in her career Dr. Torrence undertook graduate teaching roles in the University of New Mexico and later held academic appointments at several universities in the USA, Great Britain, and Australia as lecturer and associate professor.
