Basic Information
The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) was America’s first overseas research center and is still the largest in terms of assets, programs, and constituencies. It is a nonprofit organization based in the United States; its Trustees were incorporated in 1881 in Massachusetts for the purpose of founding the ASCSA in Greece. ASCSA’s website is at http://www.ascsa.edu.gr.
Major Impact
Since then ASCSA has provided American graduate students and scholars a base in Greece for pursuing studies in the history and civilization of the Greek world. ASCSA remains today a teaching institution, providing through its academic programs, opportunities for graduate students, undergraduates, secondary school, and college teachers, as well as other scholars to study at first hand the sites and monuments of Greece.
