Historical Background
In vertebrates, the TEAD family of transcription factors is comprised of four members that contain a highly conserved (99–100%) DNA-binding domain, designated the TEA/ATTS domain (Burglin 1991) (Fig. 1). This highly conserved domain is comprised of three α helical domains and is not confined to vertebrates, but is also found in transcription factors from multiple organisms, including the TEAD1 homologs AbaA (Aspergillus nidulans), TEC1 (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), and scalloped (sd, Drosophila melanogaster).
