The Agricultural History Society recognizes the roles of agriculture and agri-business in shaping the political, economic, social and historical profiles of different countries worldwide. Since 1927, the Society’s publication, Agricultural History, has been the international journal for the field and publishes innovative research on agricultural and rural history.

Everett E Edwards Awards in Agricultural History

Subjects: Agricultural and rural history.

Purpose: To encourage and reward scholarly work in the field. The award was established in 1953 in memory and recognition of the outstanding services of Everett Eugene Edwards, a long-time agricultural historian and editor of Agricultural History from 1931 to 1951.

Eligibility: Open to any graduate or doctoral student submitting an article to Agricultural History during the calendar year.

Gilbert C Fite Dissertation Award

Subjects: Agricultural and rural history.

Purpose: To reward the best dissertation.

Eligibility: Open to any doctoral student who has completed a PhD dissertation.

Vernon Carstensen Memorial Award in Agricultural History

Purpose: To promote research and publication. The award was established in 1980 to recognize Vernon Carstensen’s services to agricultural history by his former students.

Eligibility: Open to any author who has been published in the quarterly journal of Agricultural History during the calendar year.

Wayne D. Rasmussen Award

Subjects: Agricultural history.

Purpose: Since 2001, the Agricultural History Society has awarded the Wayne Rasmussen Award to the best article on agricultural history published in a journal other than Agricultural History.

Eligibility: Presented to the author of the best article on agricultural history, broadly interpreted, and published in any journal other than Agricultural History during the calendar year.

Value: The award includes a cash prize, and certificates presented to the author and publisher at the Society’s annual meeting
