Years of Life Lost Crude Rate

Reference work entry

Crude Years of Life Lost Rate; Crude Rate for Years of Life Lost

Years of Life Lost (YLL) Crude Rate is the amount of years of life lost per population member. The numerator is the number of YLL, and the denominator is the number in the population. Because rates are usually low (less than 1), quite often a rate will be multiplied by a factor of 10n to become “per 10n people”; for example, a rate of 0.0005 becomes 50 per 100,000 people.
