PCI encompasses all procedures which are intended to improve blood flow through the coronary arteries by opening any blockage. This includes Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA), which is a dilatation of an occluded coronary artery using a balloon catheter and primary stent placement.
