McMaster-Toronto Arthritis Patient Preference Disability Questionnaire

Reference work entry

Definition

Functional scale that investigates patient priorities. An interviewer elicits from patients the activities not able to be performed that are the most important to the patient and probes whether this inability is due to the illness. Thus, the MACTAR concept of function may be more comprehensive than that of traditional fixed-item questionnaires and reveal issues that really matter to the patient. This scale has been validated in rheumatoid arthritis and recently in systemic sclerosis.
