Hepatitis C Virus infection can cause acute hepatitis and chronic hepatitis. Chronic hepatitis may develop into cirrhosis or liver cancer. The HCV virus is transmitted through blood-to-blood contact. The currently best available treatment is pegylated Interferon in combination with ribavirin. There is no vaccination available.
