Glucocorticoids (GC) are synthetic molecules with similar structure to adrenal cortical glucocorticoid hormones. GC have potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. They have disease-modifying effect and act more rapidly than DMARDs but their long-term use is limited due to several adverse effects.
