Definition

The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) was designed and implemented by the World Health Organization in late 1970s to improve vaccine coverage through community participation. Routine immunization program, which was organized to fully immunize children against polio, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and measles, is the most important activity of EPI.
