East African Sleeping Sickness
Form of Human African Trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense. It presents as an acute syndrome and is maintained by an animal reservoir. It is transmitted by tsetse flies (Glossinae) – generally a species of the savanna type (morsitans) but can also be transmitted by G. fuscipes fuscipes.
