Disease Activity Score

Reference work entry

Definition

DAS is a measure of disease activity. For example, with respect to rheumatoid arthritis, it is a formula incorporating clinical variables (number of tender and swollen joints, patient assessment of disease activity) and laboratory variable (erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein level). The DAS is mainly used for assessing treatment response in clinical trials but is increasingly used in clinical practice as a guide to treatment decisions.
