Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Reference work entry

A long-term disorder characterized by debilitating fatigue of unknown origin. Chronic fatigue syndrome was believed by many researchers to represent an underlying psychiatric phenomenon. More contemporary research suggests the etiology of chronic fatigue syndrome is likely to biological in origin, though a comprehensive etiological account still seems far off.
