Abstract
Very few things in life are 100% efficient. Just think how wonderful it would be if a car engine could covert the fuel straight into engine power, and not even get hot. This would, of course, use much less fuel, and the reliability of the engine would improve. With computer data the key to efficiency typically relates to the amount of bandwidth that it uses, the size of the data, and the delay in the transmission. The optimum efficiency would be to make every single bit of data count for some information. This would be very difficult, but where resources are low, data must be optimized in the amount of the resources that it uses.
