Greenschist is a green flaky metamorphic rock produced by the regional metamorphism of basic volcanic rocks. It is mainly composed of green minerals, such as chlorite, epidote, actinolite, and zoisite, as well as plagioclase, quartz, sericite and calcite. It typically has a lepidoblastic texture or a fibroblastic texture of schist. Its nomenclature is based on the main green minerals it contains, such as chlorite schist, epidote schist, and actinolite schist.
