The Great Barrier Reef is located in the Pacific along the eastern coastline of Queensland State, northeastern Australia. It has the world’s largest collection of coral reefs and includes 400 types of coral, 1,500 species of fish and 4,000 types of molluscs. It is also the habitat for species such as dugong (sea cow) and the large green turtle, which are threatened with extinction. The Great Barrier Reef Reserve is the world’s largest natural heritage site and a paradise for marine ecotourism.
