Granulite is a regional, deep metamorphic rock characterised by abundant hypersthene. It is composed of anhydrous minerals, such as hypersthene, diopside and garnet, and other light-coloured minerals, such as plagioclase, perthite, antiperthite, quartz and sillimanite. Granulite has a medium-fine granoblastic texture and an invisible gneissose structure (or blocky structure). Based on the mineral composition, some people further categorise granulite as acidic granulite and basic granulite.
