Synonym: Drift scratch landscape
This is a landscape that is created by glacial abrasion. Glacial striae are preserved on the moraine rock surface, sides of the glacial valley and the valley’s bedrock surface. The marks look as a T-shaped head with a tail. The large and deep portion points downhills, and the fine linear portion points uphills. The marks form when gravels carried by glaciers scratch each other or abrade the bedrock. The striae are several centimetres to a metre long and several millimetres deep. Glacial striae can help determine the glacier’s movement direction (Fig. 13).
