Glacial Pavement Landscape, Abraded Bedrock Surface Landscape
Reference work entry
This is a glacial erosion landscape. When a glacier flows across the bedrocks, the abraded surface is called a glacial pavement. It is an important evidence of glacial movement. The rock surface appears very smooth to the naked eye, but numerous minute striations can be identified under the microscope. The extent of polishing hinges on the particle size of the materials that act as the abrasion medium (Fig. 11).
