This is a landscape resource system with tourism value formed by glaciation. Glaciers are colloquially called ‘ice rivers’ in Chinese. Quaternary glaciers have a total area of 15.85 million square kilometres, which is approximately 10% of the total land area of the Earth and 3% of the globe. Based on the characteristics and morphology of glacial sites, glaciers can be categorised as piedmont glaciers, alpine glaciers and continental ice sheets and ice caps. Based on their geographical locations, glaciers can be divided into polar glaciers, sub-polar glaciers, temperate glaciers and tropical glaciers. Based on their time of formation, glaciers are classified into glaciers from past ice ages and Quaternary glaciers.
