This is an excavated depression formed by the plucking action of glaciers. A glacial lake can be formed by filling of a depression and damming of a glacial moraine. Examples are the cirque lake of Mahu Lake in Luhuo, Sichuan Province, the moraine lake Tianchi on the northern slope of Bogda Peak, and Tianchi Lake in Xinjiang Province. These lakes combine with the glacial peaks in the distance to create a picturesque scenery, and they have become popular tourism spots.
