Geopark, Scientific Research Topics
Scientific research in geoparks mainly focuses on five aspects: geological heritage, environmental protection, resource management, socio-economic impacts and interpretation. Research on geological heritage includes studies of their formation, evolution, characteristics, aesthetic value and global comparisons. Environmental protection includes the geopark’s geodiversity, biodiversity and interactions between its geological and biological components. Studies of the sustainable uses of resources, such as the landscape, water and forest resources, are important for bringing direct environmental and socio-economic benefits and impacts to the local communities. Research on the communication of knowledge and interpretation helps in the design of better interpretation materials, museum displays, digital and audio-visual presentations, tour guide training, guidebooks and maps.
