These zones are special areas of geological heritage with international, national or regional significance. They are also nature reserves. No activities such as mining, quarrying, sand excavation, logging, land reclamation and waste burning are allowed in these areas. China’s geological heritage protection zones are divided into national-level, provincial-level (autonomous regions and municipalities), municipal-level (autonomous prefectures) and county-level protection zones.
